Part 2 – The Footprint of the present

In the first part I stressed the importance of “upgrading” your marketing footprint to “modern times“. So what exactly should the footprint of a modern day business owner look like?

Well first of all there is not a one size fits all blueprint….. today’s marketing methods require you to understand your market and use the appropriate medium to make contact and build a relationship.

Having said that, there are certain crucial components of your marketing plan.

Here is an example of a footprint for “modern times”.

Modern Day Footprint

Elements of the modern day footprint:

1) Today’s footprint is smaller but has more “toes”

  • More toes means a better ability to adapt to changes in the marketplace
  • Each toe has a smaller reach but is more specialized and effective
  • Uses a combination of Audio, Video, Pay Per Click, Blogs, etc in concert

Today customers want to be contacted in a greater variety of ways than before. It is important to reach out to your customers in as many ways as possible in order to begin a relationship with them.

2) All “toes” are connected to your website

  • Each “toe” leads back to your website
  • Results can be measured

By having all your “toes” connected to your website it is now possible for you measure and have more information about what works and what doesn’t. With the modern footprint you will usually know how a customer found your message, this allows you to test and tweak to increase sales and conversions.

3) Two way communication

  • Allows you to engage the customer and find out what they truly want
  • Discover problems and opportunities faster

4) More effective

  • Because of the greater ability to target your customers you can spend your time and money on more qualified prospects
  • Your message does not fall on “deaf ears”

There are many more advantages to modeling the footprint of “modern times” and it is the goal of this blog to go deeper into the many options you have as a small business owner.

Feel free to post any comments and questions you have about new media marketing….. the challenges…. the opportunities… the benefits.

  • No way to measure results

Slow -

  • Takes time to make changes
  • Labor intensive to produce

Inefficient –

  • Loud "roar" but only heard by a few true prospects
  • No feedback from prospects
